Developing a European Framework to Combat Religious-Based Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination: Promoting Wellbeing, Inclusion, and Democratic Resilience in Educational Institutions Through AI and Digital Social Media

This conceptual project aims to develop a comprehensive European framework to combat religious-based bullying, cyberbullying, and discrimination in schools, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion, and democratic resilience. Against a backdrop of increasing religious intolerance and digital hostility in educational settings, this initiative recognises the urgent need to rethink how European schools engage with AI and social media—tools that can both amplify harm and foster equity.

Rather than pursuing empirical research, the project draws from an extensive interdisciplinary literature review, offering a theoretically robust, evidence-informed foundation to support educators, policymakers, and communities.

Research Objectives

The project explores the following guiding objectives:

To understand the dynamics of religious-based bullying and cyberbullying in European educational institutions.
To analyse the impact of AI technologies and digital social media on bullying, discrimination, and students’ wellbeing.
To develop conceptual frameworks for educators, parents, and students to prevent and address religious intolerance in both physical and digital learning environments.
To identify evidence-based strategies and policy recommendations for creating safe, inclusive, and democratic school cultures.
