RILEAS Research Group: Inclusive Learning, Transnational Education & Sustainability
Research in Inclusive Learning, Transnational Education and Academic Sustainability (RILEAS Research Group)
The RILEAS Research Group (Research in Inclusive & Language-Enhanced Assessment and Sustainability) advances interdisciplinary research on inclusive, multilingual, and future-oriented assessment practices in higher education.
RILEAS examines how assessment design, digital innovation, and pedagogical leadership shape equity, belonging, and student success across diverse learning environments. The group is grounded in inclusive pedagogy, assessment literacy, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and responsible AI integration.
RILEAS aims to:
-
Develop evidence-based frameworks for inclusive and multilingual assessment
-
Advance assessment literacy among educators and academic leaders
-
Explore responsible and ethical uses of AI in learning and assessment
-
Promote Education for Sustainable Development through curriculum and assessment innovation
-
Strengthen inclusive leadership capacity in higher education
-
Bridge research, professional development, and institutional policy
Through international collaboration and practitioner engagement, RILEAS works to reimagine assessment as relational, ethical, and transformative — not merely procedural.
Impact & Policy Influence
RILEAS produces research that directly informs institutional strategy, professional development, and sector-wide conversations on assessment reform.
Key areas of impact include:
-
Development of the Inclusive Formative Assessment Literacy (IFAL) framework to guide institutional practice
-
Design and delivery of AdvanceHE-accredited Arena Fellowship workshops to enhance assessment literacy
-
Leadership within AEA-Europe’s Inclusive Assessment SIG, supporting lecturers globally
-
Staff and postgraduate training initiatives at the University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia
-
Contributions to national and international discussions on AI governance in higher education
-
Integration of Education for Sustainable Development principles into assessment policy
By combining conceptual innovation with practical implementation, RILEAS supports universities in embedding inclusive, multilingual, and sustainable assessment cultures at scale.
